Bollywood superstar Sridevi dies at 54 of heart attack
Sridevi, one of India’s most talented and celebrated actresses, has died of cardiac arrest in Dubai of United Arab Emirates.
In last five decades, Sridevi acted in more than 150 films, including classics like Mr India, Chandni, ChaalBaaz and Sadma
The actress made her Bollywood debut in 1979 with “Solva Sawan” (16th spring), but she made her mark in the Hindi film industry with the film “Sadma” (Shock). Her last film, MOM, was released in 2017
She is survived by her husband, Boney Kapoor, and daughters Jhanvi and Khushi.
Born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Sridevi started acting at the age of four with a role in the Tamil language film, Thunaivan.
The Bollywood star was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in 2013.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he was “saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi”, while Indian President Ram Nath Kovind wrote that he was “shocked”.
